At Shikari Well-being Spa we offer a Hemp Steam Sauna, which uses a clay chair and pot that have been made by artisans in Shigaraki. Shigaraki holds great history, as it was once known as the "Phantom City", home to Emperor Shomu's Shigaraki Palace. The historical significance was recognized by naming Shigaraki to be one of the six ancient kilns of Japan and In 2017, and it was also certified as a Japanese Heritage Site.

Not only does the land have an impressive history, but the soil is also remarkable. Bursting with minerals and healing properties, the soil used to make the steam pot and chair is one of the best layers of clay in Japan. Having been bathed in sunlight for 1000 years, this aging and sunlight exposure makes for soil that is rich in healing energy, microorganisms, iron, and the power of nature that purifies and balances the female body. Furthermore, when heat is applied to the pot and chair, it emits a large amount of infrared rays that stimulate cellular activity. This cellular activity can lead to the alleviation of pain, tension, energy stagnation, wounds, and skin disorders. So, not only is the clay layered with history, minerals, and cellular boosting activity, but when heated during the steam sauna, you are able to relax and feel the power of Shigaraki yellow clay.
The 100% chemical free, yellow Shigaraki clay pot and chair was handmade by trustworthy traditional craftsmen, and can be experienced during the Hemp Steam Sauna. After steaming, the clay is naturally drying and antibacterial, which makes for the most mold-free sanitary environment that you can enjoy with safety.
